BMI calculator

The BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator gives everyone the opportunity to quickly and conveniently calculate their own body mass index. We calculate BMI by dividing body weight (in kilograms) by height squared (in meters). This indicator is primarily used to assess the risk of serious diseases: atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease, stroke, and even cancer. Most of these diseases are related to obesity and that is why the BMI calculator is such a useful tool.

What is BMI?

BMI is one of the important indicators of our physical condition, but unfortunately it is not sufficient. A very important supplement to the BMI is the abdominal fat indicator - too high can mean dangerous abdominal obesity, even with a correct BMI! Moreover, paradoxically, scientific research shows that people who are slightly overweight are usually healthier and live longer than people with the so-called "correct weight". There are even voices that the threshold for excess weight arbitrarily set by the WHO (25) is too low.

Remember

The BMI calculator shows the approximate body fat content. For some people, BMI can lead to wrong conclusions. Physically active people, practicing sports, may have an overweight related to the muscle tissue and not the amount of fat in the body. Moreover, it is not recommended to use the BMI index to determine body weight for children up to 14 years of age and for pregnant women.
